A new dedicated warhead built for Raytheon's Small Tactical Munition (STM) was tested in late March and is now entering advanced stages of development, the company has revealed. The STM is being developed for Tier II unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) such as AAI Corporation's RQ-7 Shadow 200, which currently cannot be weaponised because of payload limitations. The STM weighs just 13 Ib (5.90 kg) and is about 2 ft (61 cm) long, making it the smallest air-launched weapon in the company's portfolio. Features include a dual-mode guidance system combining a semi-active laser seeker and GPS-aided inertial navigation, which enable the weapon to engage both fixed and moving targets, specifically personnel and light vehicles, by day or night and in all weather conditions.
