The Sudanese Army has deployed a self-propelled version of the Russian 122 mm D-30 howitzer developed locally by Military Industry Corporation (MIC). The new howitzer, known locally as Khalifa, is operated by a crew of five, two less than the standard D-30 howitzer. The chassis has been fitted with a locally designed forward control four-door protected cab, which provides some protection from small-arms fire and shell splinters.
