4AP fuze in development

Italy's Oto Melara, part of Finmec-canica, has begun trials of a new 4AP ('4 Actions Plus') multifunction programmable fuze incorporating a height-of-burst function and an automatic default mode. Developed using experience from the 3AP smart fuze (created by Oto Melara and partner Simmel Difesa specifically for 76 mm ammunition) and the Vulcano multifunction fuze, the 4AP fuze will be available for 76 mm, 127 mm, and 155 mm calibre munitions. Oto Melara began private-venture development of the 4AP fuze in late 2013 to address requirements for an advanced low-cost, multifunction, and multicalibre fuze.
