Scanning new horizons: Tracking US Navy shipborne radar developments

The last 15 years have seen a slew of significant developments affecting the US Navy's (USN's) requirements for, and acquisition of, shipborne tactical radar systems. Specific dynamics include the need to address evolving maritime threats in the antiair warfare (AAW) and ballistic missile defence (BMD) domains, the decision to truncate the DDG 1000 destroyer programme at just three hulls and restart DDG 51 series production, and the inception of the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) programme to meet USN requirements for a small surface combatant.
