The assassination of a retired senior intelligence officer in Jordan is likely to lead to a shake-up in security practices within the country's intelligence and security forces, sources told Jane's. Major General Habis Hanayneh, the former head of the counter-terrorism department of the Jordanian General Intelligence Department (GID), was assassinated on 23 October. He was shot by a former Islamist militant at his house in Madaba city in central Jordan.
