Moldova ratifies EU agreement as Transdniestr signs memoranda of co-operation with Russia

The moldovan parliament ratified the EU-Moldova Association Agreement (AA) on 2 July, only five days after it was signed. On the same day, the leader of the separatist Transdniestr republic in the country's east signed several "inter-ministerial" memoranda of co-operation with Russia. The AA was ratified by 59 votes to four; 38 opposition deputies left the parliament in protest and did not vote. Meanwhile, the Russia-Transdniestr agreements are aimed at promoting co-operation in areas such as the economy, particularly increased bilateral trade and Russian investment in Transdniestr.
