Scent Detection Technologies (SDT) of Israel in mid-March 2009 launched its MN2000 Series handheld explosives and narcotics trace and vapour detection system for checkpoint security. In common with the MN1000B, an earlier system unveiled by SDT in December 2008, the rug-gedised MN2000 incorporates dual-mode (handheld sampling unit and analyser) detection capabilities based on SDT's proprietary high-frequency quartz crystal microbalance technology. This is non-radioactive and does not use any ionising source, unlike many other explosives-trace detectors that utilise ion mass spectrometry.
