Internet Governance Forum meets in India

ITU was an active participant in the third meeting of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF), which took place in Hyderabad, India, on 3-6 December 2008 and was attended by ITU Secretary-General Hamadoun I. Toure and by Malcolm Johnson, the Director of ITU's Telecommunication Standardization Bureau (TSB).rnAmong the themes addressed by the meeting was how critical Internet resources should be managed. September 2009 will see an end to the agreement between the United States Government and the current managers of basic Internet resources, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names end Numbers (ICANN). The question is: what kind of oversight might then be established by governments and other stakeholders worldwide?
