United Arab Emirates raises its Telecom profile: Dubai to host ITU Telecom World 2012

On 25 October, during the launch of ITU Telecom World 2011, the Chairman of the ITU Telecom Board Dr Reza Jafari announced the successful bid of Dubai to host ITU Telecom World 2012. Mohammad Al Qamzi, Chairman of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of the United Arab Emirates, thanked the ITU Telecom Board, ITU Secretary-General Dr Hamadoun Toure and the ITU Member States for the confidence which they had shown by choosing the country to host the next ITU Telecom World event. The country is now home to operators serving over 100 million customers across Asia, the Middle East and Africa. "The global position of the United Arab Emirates as a major gateway for three continents, with trade and transit routes reaching west, east, north and south, has ICT as its heart," said Mr Al Qamzi.
