Pilot programme ISO initiative to enhance intermodal and maritime security

Firstly, I would like strongly to support the four observations Dr. George Arnold in his article on the ISO Advisory Group on security highlights: " Key success factors" -strong government/private sector partnership; strategic approach; security is a shared problem; and strive for harmonization, share best practices and don't "re-invent the wheel"". From the very outset of our ISO Pilot Programme, launched by ISO/ TC 8, Ships and marine technology, at the IMO 22~(nd) Assembly in November 2001, we have recognized and adopted all four of these success factors. As I briefly describe our programme, this should be readily apparent.
