(1) The dimensionless mean penetration depth, L_(Bm)/D, and mean width of bubble dispersion region, W_(Bm)/D, beneath the outlet of a vertical pipe depended strongly on the flow pattern in the pipe regardless of the wettability of the pipe. (2) The measured values of L_(Bm)/D in the annular and bubbly flow regimes in a wetted pipe were predicted by Eqs. (4) and (5), respectively. The measured values of the width of bubble dispersion region, W_(Bm)/D, in the annular and bubbly flow regimes were predicted by Eqs. (7) and (8), respectively. (3) The measured values of L_(Bm)/D and W_(Bm)/D in the droplet flow regime in a poorly wetted pipe were predicted by Eqs. (6) and (9), respectively. The measured values of L_(Bm)/D and W_(Bm)/D in the inverted annular flow regime in a poorly wetted pipe approached Eqs. (5) and (8), respectively.
