Although business data tradi-tionally has been stored in database tables, increasingly business data is being stored in XML documents. A key advantage of XML is that it enables data to be exchanged across differentrndatabase plat-forms. Typically a database system receives data from other, dissimilar database systems in a common XML format, then parses the data into database tables for further processing. But the use of XML to store business data poses a potential difficulty when you're trying to pinpoint the source of a problem within the data. When data is in database tables, it's a relatively simple matter to use SQL to query the tables for further analysis and locate the problem. But when the data is inside XML files, searching among many XML files that your system has received from other systems is difficult and time-consuming.
