New Open-Source PHP Toolkit Simplifies Communication Between RPG, Web Apps

The momentum of PHP in the IBM i community is absolutely phenomenal. I have not seen anything like it in my entire IT career, but I'm sure some concepts (such as DB2 Web Query and RPG ILK.) come dose. As the adop tion of PHP continues to grow, so too does the partnership between IBM and Zend.And it's the i community that reaps the fruit of their labor in the form of the single Apache Server/FastCGI-based Zend Server and the subject of this article: the new, open-source PHP Toolkit for IBM i. I have seen four major areas of modernization around PHP on IBMi: 1. Extending DB2 for i data to the web (via the browser) 2. Extending RPG/COBOL business logic to browser-based applications 3. Leveraging web services to extend the reach of the IBM i to other platforms and the world 4.Implementing open-source applications like Drupal,Joomla, SugarCRM,and more.
