Inland Steel's 80-in., 5-stand tandem cold reduction mill

Modernization of a 1970 tandem mill has returned the facility to world class status with significant quality and productivity improvements: in-body gage deviation to better than +1%; head plus tail off-gage less than 90 ft. Components of the program include, for all stands: conversion to hydraulic AGC, upgrade of roll bending, conversion to digital drive control, and replacement of stand operator stations; also, a new pulpit desk and man-machine interface.
