HMM is also banking on huge newbuild- ings. The South Korean shipping line has signed letters of intent with three shipyards for the construction of 20 new vessels. Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering will deliver seven 23,000 teu containerships, and Samsung Heavy Industries will construct five ships with the same capacity. Deliveries have been set for the second quarter of2020. HMM has also mandated Hyundai Heavy Industries to build eight 14,000 teu containerships; these units will be ready for operations around a year later. The move will enable the line to implement its declared strategy of attaining a total overall capacity of about 1 million teu.
