Digital automatic coupling (DAC) is at the heart of international railfreight operators' ability to compete. Austria, Switzerland and Germany took a decisive joint step to the future recently.Trade union officials from Austria, Ger-many and Switzerland, who represented the European Transport Workers Fede-ration (ETF), recently visited a site loca-ted in Gorlitz (Germany), where tests are being conducted on prototypes of digital automatic coupling systems (DAC). This new way of coupling can pave the way to-wards the automation and digitalisation of railfreight activities. The aim of the trip to the city on the Polish border was to hear about the ex-perience and assessment of the experts, such as engine drivers and shunting yard workers, amongst others. The test site sub-sequently welcomed representatives of the team of the European DAC Delivery Pro-gramme (EDDP), which is looking into the steps for implementation.
