According to Unctad the average age of all of the vessels sailing the seven seas came to 20.98 years in 2019. Now UECC has completed a series of field test that shows that there are means to lower these units' emissions in the long term too. The Norwegian ro-ro enterprise United European Car Carriers (UECC) recently replaced conventional fuel by biofuel in its 20-year-old ro-ro ship the Autosky, for tests that lasted a year. This has furnished proof that not only newbuildings can pitch in when it comes to reducing polluting emissions. Ships that are a little older and have a few years more under their operating belt can also contribute.
