Duisport managed to score strategically in 2020. Its container throughput and international railfreight operations stood out. The European inland port and hub Duisport registered successful growth in some segments in a difficult 2020. On top of this it pushed ahead with the promotion of its international network. The ongoing pandemic also had an impact on the hub in Germany's Ruhr Basin, however. Overall, the group handled almost 59 million t of goods in 2020, which was 3% less than the 61.1 million t shifted in 2019. This volume decline was strongest, amongst other things, in dry bulk segments such as coal, where demand fell, on account of the political decision to change priorities in the domestic energy sector. Container throughput, in contrast, rose by 5% in 2020, coming to approximately 4.2 million teu (4 million teu in 2019)-a new record. Box volumes account for about 55% of the total volume of goods handled in Duisport - and are considered an important indicator of the direction in which the hub will develop.
