The leading international player Hutchison Ports has said that it is the first operator in Thailand and one of the first worldwide to acquire and test an autonomous lorry. It will be deployed in its terminal D in the eastern port of Laem Chabang. The Thai national branch of the global port operator Hutchison Ports has great plans. It is taking part in a project that envisages the introduction of six autonomous 'Qomolo' lorries, a measure that will move the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) steadily along its path towards new technological infrastructure. The lorries are expected to stabilise and increase the overall efficiency, security and safety of operations in terminal D. The acquisition is expected to benefit Hutchison's customers and other users of the terminal run by Hutchison Ports Thailand, whose parent company is headquartered in Hong Kong, as well as other parties along the EEC. The latter represents an important access to the influential Mekong region.
