A heavy role for Cuxhaven

Berth No. 4 in the Cuxport terminal, in the German port of Cuxhaven on the mouth of the river Elbe, has not even been officially opened yet, but it is already being used for the Deutsche Bucht offshore wind farm. Brand-new berth No. 4 in Cuxhaven's Cuxport Terminal is creating quite a name for itself. Even before it has officially been opened the new heavylift berth, covering a total of 8.5 ha, is being used to support the Dutch company Van Oord store and tranship monopiles and transition pieces for Northland Power's offshore wind farm called Deutsche Bucht (German Bight). 31 transition pieces for the farm have been supplied to Cuxhaven, arriving from Spain on board the Happy Star heavylift vessel. The shipments, each weighing more than 300 t, were lifted onto the quay at the berth by the ship's own crane and are now being stored there - in their correct installation sequence, of course.
