Fourth Bonded Port Area In China

The port of Yangpu on Hainan Island (China) wants to become the leading freight hub in the southern part of the country. It is currently seeking to attract new shipping line customers. It also hopes to find additional investors for the adjacent industrial district. Chinese ports have experienced an enormous boom in recent years, but this has barely touched the ports on Hainan Island up to now. That is to change. The island's new seaport of Yangpu is being developed as a hub for China's trade with countries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean). The government designated Yangpu as a free-trade zone at the end of November. Yangpu is China's fourth bonded port, and it is the only one in the south of the country. The others are located in Yanshan (near Shanghai), Dongjiang (near Tianjin) and Dayaowan (near Dalian, in Liaoning province). The next major competitor of Yangpu is the port of Singapore. Yangpu is favourably placed on the international sea route linking Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Osaka (Japan).
