Paraguay modernising roads with help from Japan

Over the next few years, Paraguay will use the loan from Japan to replace 1,000 m of old wooden bridges with concrete structures, and pave nearly 350 km of untarred rural roads so that they remain passable during spells of heavy rain. The money will primarily flow into road construction projects in Paraguay's three eastern departments Guaira, Mi-siones and Paraguari. The scheme that Japan is funding is part of a major USD 170 million infrastructure project that the Asian nation is co-fmancing with the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) and the Opec Fund for International Development (OFID).
