Positive signs in Athens

Cargo throughput at Athens airport started 2015 on an optimistic note. A 3.3% improvement represented a modest but positive trend, even though this figure could not compete with the more than 20% leap that passenger traffic made in 2014. Substantial growth in the last month of 2014 represented an encouraging sign for Athens airport. The hub registered a 4.9% augmentation vis-a-vis December 2013, which was characterised as «modest but positive.» This good news can also be seen as the result of the efforts of a long-term process which the local airfreight community initiated around two years ago (see ITJ 39-40/2014, page 64) and which it continues to implement.
