Vienna, Linz and Salzburg airports enjoyed a surge in air cargo traffic last year, but other Austrian hubs such as Graz and Innsbruck had a weak 2014. ITJ correspondent Josef Mueller takes his annual look at their performance. In 2014 cargo throughput at Austria's capital city hub in Vienna set a tough pace. As one of Europe's busiest mid-sized airports and Austria's biggest, the centre saw an increase of 8% to 277,000 t of cargo last year. Flown freight represented the lion's share, with more than 197,000 t (an increase of 10.6%), and road feeder services (RFS) handled 80,000 t (plus 3%). Spokesperson Clemens Schleinzer told the ITJ that «our most important cargo routes go to Asia. Shipments are predominantly made up of electronic goods and automotive components,» he added.
