Railway gauges and construction policies

Mongolia and China do not make use of the same gauges in their railway networks. Tracks in Mongolia are 1,520 mm wide, the broad gauge that was established in the Soviet-dominated era, whilst China, in contrast, makes use of normal-gauge tracks with a width of 1,435 mm.
