AB Sugar, British beet growers and ACP/LDC countries call for extension of abolition of EU sugar quotas to 2020

There was a general consensus today amongst parties representing Britisl Sugar, National Farmers Union (NFU) and countries under the EPA/EBA (Economic Partnership Agreements/Everything But Arms) umbrella that the abolition of EU sugar quotas should end in 2020 rather than the proposed 2015 date. Giving evidence before the House of Lords Agriculture, Fisheries, Environment and Energy Sub-Committee, Chris Carter, William Martin and Barry Newton (representing the threi parties, respectively) stated that additional five years would give their business/ sugar industries enough time to become globally competitive.
