RZD plans huge investment programme

Russian Railways wants to invest a massive $US 390 billion by 2030 to modernise and expand this huge railway. Its president, Mr Vladimir Yakunin, outlines his strategy in an exclusive interview with David Briginshaw. Investment in Russian Railways (RZD) is already being ramped up from Roubles 151 billion in 2005 to Roubles 166 billion last year and Roubles 230 billion ($US 8.8 billion) this year. Capital spending will be boosted still further as RZD plans to invest Roubles 1300 billion during the four-year period up 2010 inclusive.
