RZD aims to halve Trans-Siberia transit time

The Trans-Siberian Railway is the longest line in Russia - 9258km from Vladivostok on the Pacific to Moscow. It is then another 2175km from Moscow to Hamburg in Germany. Although rail already offers a much faster transit time than sea from the Far East to Europe, the current time saving is insufficient to offset the much higher cost of using rail, plus some of its other shortcomings such as unreliability, damage in transit, and complicated procedures and documentation.
