KiwiRail posts second-half loss

Kiwirail reported an operating loss of $NZ 136.8 million ($US 95.5 million) in the six months to December 31 as freight levels slipped on the back of the global economic recession. Total revenue across all KiwiRail operational subsidiaries totalled $NZ 299.7 million compared with a target of $NZ 327.3 million.rnFreight contributed the lion's share of the income at $NZ 183.1 million, about 6% shy of the target. A total of 6.52 million tonnes was transported compared with 6.66 million in the same period in 2008.
