Mixed results for NS

Netherlands Railways (NS) reported mixed annual results for 2009, with the economic recession accounting for a significant decline in overall profit from 2008.rnOperating profit slumped to €161 million from €328 million in 2008, caused primarily by a €106 million loss on its high-speed services. Overall profits were also down to €116 million, a fall of €165 million from 2008. Expenses increased by 13% to €4.4 billion, partly due to the costs associated with the companies acquired by NS during 2009.
