Just off the north-west coast of Hawaii's Big Island, Bill Vass, an experienced scuba diver, is making a dive that he later says will live in his memory for a long time. He isn't exploring one of the island's numerous coral reefs, but following a Wave Glider, the first marine robot to use only the ocean's endless supply of wave energy for propulsion.
