Bid to map entire ocean floor by 2030 launched

An ambitious plan to map the ocean floor of the entire world by the year 2030 was launched at the UN Ocean Conference in New York, USA, on 6 June 2017. Called Seabed 2030, the project is a collaboration between The Nippon Foundation (NF) in Japan and the General Bathymetric Chart of the Oceans (GEBCO). The Nippon Foundation will contribute US$18.5 million (£14.5 million) for the first 10 years of the project.
