Charles Tully (1995), in his book Strange Multiplicity, once argued that the modern age is intercultural rather than multicultural. Tully's argument formulated both an affirmation of the complex historical processes of cultural interactions that have shaped our contemporary societies and cities, and a critique of homogenous concepts of identity edified by liberalism, communitarianism and nationalism. Moreover, the experiences of crossing and living in more than one culture legitimize the need for the political recognition of intercultural claims and relations in prevailing institutions.
