From the theoretical point of view, this book belongs to the tradition of economic and labour sociology and comparative political economy, paying special attention to the regulatory approaches and literature. It takes part in the wide debate on the consequences of labour market regulation in Europe and on the models and varieties of capitalism in the era of transition from the crisis of Fordist and 'social market' economies to post-Fordist scenarios. In addressing these questions the volume provides, conceptually and empirically, an interpretation of the restructuring process of labour markets in advanced capitalist economies and deals with its social impacts.
