摘要

Yucesoy's book is an ethnographic account of how Turkish immigrant women interact with, shape and contest urban public place in the city of Enschede, in the Netherlands. Yucesoy conducted field work from 2001 to 2004 and engaged in participant observation in settings such as immigrant women's organizations, mosques and homes. The book aims to demonstrate that space is a social construct and that it is exclusionary. Yiicesoy defines spatial relations as actual social relations that produce inequalities in a quest for social cohesion (p. 33). Hence, she argues that, in order to understand the way in which Turkish immigrant women interact with urban social space, it is best to adopt a relational perspective.
