In times of market-driven 'reforms' of research and higher education, radical scholarship aiming at a fundamental critique of capitalist society has become rare. Corporate sponsorship, the precarization of labor conditions, rising tuition fees, peer-review procedures and competition for key publications, jobs and grants all serve to standardize research interests, career strategies and academic institutions alike.
