摘要

Supporting transport with quantitative instruments is becoming all the more important, as the sector is under stress from decisionmakers in logistics chains. Forecasting, simulation and optimization are obvious needs for a sector that one the one hand needs to modernize its way of working, but at the same time also faces reduced profit margins. At the same time, not only the transport and logistics operators themselves are interested in substantiated information about the current and future operations in the sector. Also policymakers and the wider society have specific interests that benefit from scientifically supported quantification. Among them are the planning and policy for capacity investments, pricing schemes and regulation.
