IJSEKE has never published an editorial in its entire thirty years of existence. This is the first time that I, as the founding Editor-in-Chief, feel the need and urgency to write an editorial in order to announce a new emphasis for the journal. The new emphasis is software engineering and knowledge engineering education. The pandemic is not only a great human tragedy but also has caused a tremendous loss of human lives and deep damage to the economy in almost every country of the world. It has also exposed the inherent inequality in our educational systems no matter which country we live in. The digital divide is never more evident than during the time of the pandemic. Due to the necessity to keep social distance, economically disadvantaged students without adequate resources such as computers, smart phones and digital communication networks are running the risk of being completely shut out of the educational system. The effects will become apparent in years to come.
