In this article, gain-bandwidth of microstrip antenna (MSA) fed half wavelengthFabry-Perot cavity (FPC) antenna is enhanced by modifying partiallyreflecting surface (PRS) and artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) surfaces.Two methods are considered to analyze the resonant condition of FPCantenna. In the first method phase correction is applied, to take into accountthe modification in AMC layers, while in second method the entire AMCs andPRS surface of the structure is taken as a unit cell. The proposed antenna providesS_(11) < −10 dB, peak gain of 17.7 dBi with gain variation < 2 dB, side lobelevel < −19 dB, cross polarization level (CPL) < -16 dB and front to back loberatio > 20 dB over 5.66 to 6.4 GHz, which covers ISM and satellite uplink Cband. The overall antenna dimensions are 2.7λ_0 × 3.1λ_0 × 0.5λ_0; here λ_0 is thewavelength in free space corresponding to 5.8 GHz, center frequency of theISM band. The measured results agree with simulated results.
