Optimal machining conditions with costs of quality and tool maintenance for turning

Although there s a voluminous literature on machine tool economics, the cost of machining quality has received little attention. In this paper, we develop a time- dynamic economic mode for single-pass turning. The model incorporates considerations on the stochastic nature of tool-life and such tool maintenance activities as tool replacement and tool regrinding. We model the quality cost of tool-cutting in terms of deviation from target roughness and deviation from target dimension.
