摘要

Shared memory based ATM switches provide optimal performance in terms of throughput and delay under different traffic patterns. These switches also provide better buffer utilization, can easily handle different service classes, and provide multicasting and broadcasting capabilities. Since the late 1980s, several shared memory type switches have been proposed for ATM switching. Most of these switches differ in the way addresses in the shared memory are controlled. In this paper, we present a survey of techniques of controlling addresses in shared memory based ATM switches under unicast and multicast traffic as well as a comparison of these techniques.
