The characterisation of gamma photon incoherent scattering on free and binding electrons by Compton spectroscopy

摘要

The incoherent scattering of 661.6 keV gamma rays in a wide range of atomic numbers was studied for _6C, _(13)Al, _(26)Fe, _(29)Cu, _(47)Ag, _(48)Cd and _(82)Pb. It was shown that for heavy elements, the scattering on binding electrons is important. Meanwhile, for light elements, the scattering on free electrons is prominent. The differential Compton scattering cross-section as well as the incoherent scattering functions S (E, θ, Z) of atomic number Z for the studied subject was defined by the exponential saturated functions of the energy transfer model. The experimental values agree with the theoretical ones within experimental errors.
