Many graduating engineers and scientists receive little or no training in designed experiments. When coursework is provided, it is often abstract and divorced from the practical considerations of interest in industrial application. One result has been the growth of a 'short-course industry', which provides in-house training at the job site, often emphasising the Taguchi method. These courses help practicing engineers and scientists get started with the techniques, but often lack the rigour and depth to develop a true long-term understanding.rnThe objective of this book is to bridge this gap by presenting the essential material in a fashion that permits rapid application to practical problems, but provides the structure and understanding necessary for long-term growth.
