A Debriefing, Twenty Years Later

Brian Latell, the author of Castro's Secrets: The CIA and Cuba's Intelligence Machine, is a former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) analyst. His book is, for the most part, his debriefing of Florentino Aspillaga Lombard, a Cuban intelligence operative who defected to the United States in 1987. Twenty years later, Dr. Latell again debriefs Aspillaga and writes of his spectacular revelations. I am skeptical and, as I reflect on his comments, I feel that I walk on spongy ground.
