Report on COLIS (Conceptions of Library and Information Science) Conference, London, 22-24 June 2010

The COLIS conferences are part of the intellectual landscape of the information science community with a history going back to the 1990s. They provide an opportunity for those involved in LIS, broadly defined, to meet, exchange ideas, and interact with others, in what is a genuinely international forum. The 2010 conference opened with a presentation by Martha Sabelli of Uruguay who talked about experience as an LIS department working in multidis-ciplinary research teams on projects in Uruguay-a good example of working with other university departments to provide informed policies. Christine Urquhart followed with a presentation on "systematic reviewing, meta-analysis and meta-synthesis for evidence based library and information science". Meta-synthesis is a new idea. This provoked a lot of interest, discussing approaches to syn-thesising information behaviour research that might provide useful answers to questions that information literacy practitioners might ask.
