Practical steps to further world hydro development advanced in Villach

Nearly 800 participants from all parts of the world, described by one session chairman as the 'world hydropower family' met in Villach, Austria, from 17 to 20 October to help move the positive commitments and policies of the past couple of years into practical developments. High level delegations from virtually all countries with active hydro development programmes discussed planning approaches, financing strategies, environmental and social issues, appropriate equipment design and selection, and innovative construction techniques.
