Swiss government approves Nant de Drance

Swiss power producer, Atel and the country's federal railway operator SSB are ready to start construction of the 600 MW Nant de Drance pumped-storage hydropower project at Finhaut, in the Swiss Alps after receiving the go-ahead from the Federal Government last month. Atel announced on 26 August that it expected to begin building the CHF 990 million (US$ 900 million) project this month, with commercial operation expected to begin in 2015. The powerplant will be owned and operated by a joint venture between Atel and SBB, with Atel holding 60 per cent and SBB holding 40 per cent.
