Xekaman 3 contract awarded

The Xekaman 3 Power Company, an affiliate of Vietnam's largest construction group, Song Da, has awarded Austria's Andritz VA TECH Hydro a contract to supply the complete electromechanical equipment for the Xekaman 3 hydro project in the catchment area of the Mekong river in Laos. Under the contract, which is valued at approximately US$ 42 million, Andritz VA TECH Hydro will supply two Francis units, a governing system, an automation and protection system, spherical valve and auxiliary systems as well as the complete switchyard. Song Da will undertake installation of the units under the supervision of VA TECH Hydro. The plant is expected to begin service in April 2011. With an output of 254 MW and at a net head of 515 m, the plant, which is located near the Vietnamese border, will produce more than 1000 GWh/year, with almost 95 per cent efficiency. The power will be sold locally and exported to Vietnam, and the output is expected to make a significant contribution to the stability of the elec- tricity networks of Laos and Vietnam."
