GUADELOUPE

Guadeloupe has an area of about 1700 km~2 and a population of about 500 000 (June 2006). The total volume of internal renewable water resources (surface water and groundwater) is 1186 km~3, and per capita water consumption is 6645 m~3 (latest data available, 2001). There are no large dams in operation or planned. The main water withdrawals are for agriculture (principally irrigation, and to a lesser extent livestock production), domestic use, and industry (cooling equipment and washing of manufactured goods).
