摘要

When constructing large hydro stations, one of the most significant issues is to optimize generation, from the time of initial impounding of the reservoir to the final stage of commissioning when the reservoir is full. This paper looks at the Russian approach to Francis turbine research and development, including cases where a wide operating range is applicable. A return on investment is desirable at the earliest possible stage in hydro plant construction, so units are often required to begin operating at very low heads while the dam is still under construction.
